Charleston in a Weekend: What to Do, Wear, and Sip
You don't need a week in Charleston. You need a plan, a good cocktail, and at least one friend who won't overthink the itinerary.

Why Charleston, Though?
Let's be real — Charleston has been on every "best places to visit" list for years, and for good reason. It's got the cobblestone charm, the wraparound porches, the flower-market Instagram moments, and — most importantly — some of the best food and cocktails on the East Coast. It's a city that feels both effortless and elevated. Which is basically the GGC brand in city form.
It's also incredibly doable as a weekend trip. Fly in Friday, brunch on Saturday, be home Sunday night feeling like you actually went somewhere. That's the goal.
Where to Stay
Skip the chains. Charleston's boutique hotel scene is exceptional — and the right hotel makes the whole trip feel more special.
The Vendue
Right in the French Quarter, rooftop bar, art-filled rooms, walkable to everything. This is the one. Book it before your girlfriends do.
Zero George Street
A converted carriage house with a courtyard and a cocktail bar. If your group wants something quieter and more boutique, this is it.
The Spectator Hotel
Still charming, still central, a little easier on the wallet if you're splitting four ways.
The Itinerary (Curated, Not Overwhelming)
Friday Evening
Arrive, drop your bags, and get directly to a cocktail. The Gin Joint on King Street is a must — small, intimate, the bartenders actually know what they're doing. Follow it up with dinner at FIG if you planned ahead and made a reservation (do this before you leave home), or Husk if you want something slightly more walk-in friendly.
Saturday Morning
Coffee at Kudu Coffee — it has the best patio in the city and you will absolutely post it. Then walk the French Quarter before the crowds arrive. The rainbow row houses are at their most beautiful in early morning light.
Saturday Afternoon
Saturday Night
Rooftop drinks at The Dewberry or back to your hotel rooftop if you stayed at The Vendue. Dinner at 167 Raw for oysters (get there early — it's tiny and there's always a wait), or Xiao Bao Biscuit if your group is into something a little more adventurous.
Sunday Morning
Brunch. Always brunch. Millers All Day on King Street does a proper Southern brunch and they do it well. Order the shrimp and grits. You're in Charleston. Order the shrimp and grits.
What to Pack
Charleston is warm — sometimes aggressively so. Here's what to throw in your bag:
- A linen dress or two — wrinkle-resistant, breathable, looks cute on cobblestones
- Comfortable sandals that look good — you will walk more than you think
- A lightweight crossbody bag — hands-free for touring, still chic
- A good SPF — the sun in Charleston is not playing
- One going-out outfit — Charleston restaurants appreciate a little effort
The GGC Bottom Line
Charleston is one of those cities that earns its reputation. The food is that good. The architecture is that pretty. The cocktails are that strong. And it's absolutely the right size for a girls weekend — enough to fill two and a half days, not so much that you feel like you missed everything.
Book the trip. Pack the linen. Order the shrimp and grits. We'll meet you there.

Frequently Asked Questions
How many days do I need in Charleston?
Two and a half to three days is the sweet spot — enough to eat well, wander the French Quarter, and fit in a tour without feeling rushed. Fly in Friday, brunch through the weekend, and head home Sunday night.
When is the best time to visit Charleston?
Spring (March–May) and fall (October–November) are the loveliest, with mild weather that's kind to cobblestone walking. Summer can get aggressively hot and humid, so pack accordingly if you go then.
Do I need reservations for Charleston restaurants?
For the buzziest spots like FIG, yes — book before you leave home. Husk is a little more walk-in friendly, and 167 Raw is tiny with a near-constant wait, so get there early.
Is Charleston good for a girls' trip?
It's practically built for one. The boutique hotels, strong cocktails, King Street shopping, and unbeatable food make it the right size for a group of two to six over a long weekend.
