The Concept
Scenic Highway 30A is a nineteen-mile ribbon of the Florida Panhandle where the sand is the color of powdered sugar and every few miles delivers a completely different town. This weekend is about the two that started it all: Seaside, the pastel, front-porch original that basically invented the walkable beach town (yes, the one from The Truman Show), and Rosemary Beach, its moody, sophisticated cousin — cobblestones, dark shutters, a rooftop bar worth dressing for.
You don't need an agenda packed to the gills here. You need a bike, a great hat, a dinner reservation with a Gulf view, and the good sense to let the afternoons go slow. This is upscale beach without the fuss — the girls' trip where the biggest decision is which town you're strolling tonight and whether that second glass of rosé is happening (it is).
Getting There
30A sits between two easy airports. Destin–Fort Walton Beach (VPS) is about 30–45 minutes to the west; Northwest Florida Beaches International (ECP), near Panama City, is about 35–45 minutes to the east. Rent a car for the drive in — then park it. Once you're here, the Timpoochee Trail and a set of beach cruisers will get you almost everywhere.

Day 1: Seaside — The Original
Ease in where the whole 30A story began: the pastel town that looks like a postcard and walks like a dream.
- Morning: Coffee and a pastry at Amavida Coffee, then a slow browse through Sundog Books and the artist studios at Ruskin Place.
- Afternoon: Beach time on Seaside's sugar sand, then grab lunch from Airstream Row — the silver food trucks at Central Square (grilled cheese at The Meltdown, dumplings at 'drome, a Beach Dog from Wild Bill's). Pick up picnic snacks and a bottle at Modica Market.
- Evening: Shrimp and grits (the famous ones) at Great Southern Cafe, then climb up to the rooftop at Bud & Alley's for the sunset toast. It's the 30A ritual — do it night one.
Day 2: Rosemary Beach & Alys — The Glamour
Trade porches for cobblestones. Today is the polished end of 30A — dark-shuttered architecture, boutiques, and the best dinner of the trip.
- Morning: Bike east on the Timpoochee Trail to Alys Beach and gawk at the whitewashed, Bermuda-style streets. Coffee and people-watching at Fonville Press.
- Afternoon: Roll into Rosemary Beach town center for boutique browsing and tapas + a chocolate stop at La Crema Tapas & Chocolate. Save room.
- Evening: Golden hour with cocktails at the Havana Beach Rooftop, then dinner downstairs at Havana Beach Bar & Grill — or go for the Gulf-view rooftop seafood at Pescado. Both are worth the dress.
Day 3: Grayton Beach & the Dune Lakes — The Wild Side
One last day for the nature that makes 30A rare — and the most beloved dive bar on the coast.
- Morning: Head to Grayton Beach State Park, routinely ranked one of America's best beaches, and walk the trail along Western Lake.
- Afternoon: Paddleboard or kayak one of 30A's rare coastal dune lakes — an ecosystem found in only a handful of places on earth. Then dry off with a late lunch.
- Evening: Dinner and live music at the wonderfully eccentric The Red Bar in Grayton — a 30A institution and the perfect no-fuss send-off.
What to Pack — Coastal Chic
30A dresses up more than a typical beach town — think barefoot luxury, not boardwalk. Pack pieces that go from sand to rooftop with one swap of shoes.

Do we need a car on 30A, or can we bike everywhere?
You need a car to get from the airport to 30A, but once you're there the Timpoochee Trail and rental beach cruisers handle most of the in-town movement between Seaside, Alys Beach, and Rosemary Beach. Park the car at your hotel and leave it — biking the trail is genuinely one of the highlights of the trip.
What's the difference between Seaside and Rosemary Beach in terms of vibe?
Seaside is the colorful, front-porch original — pastel cottages, a central square with food trucks, bookshops, and a breezy, come-as-you-are feel.
