The Concept

Boston is the girls' weekend that practically plans itself. It's compact, walkable, and packed with everything we love: gas-lit brownstone streets made for photos, a whole neighborhood devoted to pasta and pastry, a shopping street that goes on for eight blocks, and rooftop bars with sunset views over the Charles.

This is the classic version, meaning no car, no stress and no hurry. Friday is for Beacon Hill charm and your first toast up high. Saturday is for Newbury Street, afternoon tea in a library courtyard, and a North End feast. Sunday you wind down with art, the harbor and one last cocktail by the water. Pack comfy shoes. Bring your best girls.

Getting There

Logan International (BOS) is about 15 minutes from downtown. Hop in a rideshare, or take the free Silver Line bus to South Station. From the Northeast, Amtrak drops you at South Station or Back Bay, so you're right in the action. If you're driving, park the car at the hotel and forget about it. Boston is a walking city, and the T handles the rest. Hotel parking runs high, so budget for it or skip the car.

Where to Stay

The Signature Pick: The Newbury Boston

Overlooking the Public Garden at the top of Newbury Street, it doesn't get more "main character" than this. Rooms are elegant and a little glam, and its rooftop restaurant Contessa is one of the hottest tables in town. Book dinner or drinks there even if you stay somewhere else.

The Boutique Pick: The Beacon Hill Hotel

A cozy, intimate hotel set in a pair of 19th-century rowhouses right on Charles Street. You'll step out your door into antique shops, cafés and the prettiest streets in Boston. Small rooms, big charm, and a roof deck for your morning coffee.

The Classic Pick: The Lenox Hotel

A family-run Back Bay grande dame that's been around since 1900, across the street from the Boston Public Library and around the corner from Newbury Street. It's polished without being stuffy, and the location is hard to beat for a shop-and-sip weekend.

The Itinerary: Three Days of Boston, Girlfriend-Style

Day 1: Cobblestones & Cocktails with a View

Check in, drop your bags and go straight to the prettiest part of the city.

  • Afternoon: Wander Beacon Hill. Start on Charles Street for antique shops and boutiques, then climb up to Acorn Street for the photo everyone takes (take it anyway). Refuel with tea and a treat at Beacon Hill Books & Cafe, a storybook bookshop with a café tucked inside a townhouse.
  • Sunset: Walk through the Public Garden to Back Bay, then ride the elevator 51 floors up for cocktails at Stratus at View Boston. The whole city spreads out below you. Cheers to the weekend.
  • Evening: Dinner at Atlantic Fish Co. on Boylston Street. Order the lobster, grab a sidewalk table, and people-watch.

Day 2: Newbury Street, High Tea & the North End

Today is for shopping, sipping and eating. Pace yourselves, ladies.

  • Morning: Coffee and a pastry at Tatte Bakery & Café, then work your way down Newbury Street. It's eight blocks of boutiques, beauty counters and brownstone storefronts. Warm-weather bonus: take a spin on the Swan Boats in the Public Garden (seasonal, roughly spring through Labor Day).
  • Afternoon: Afternoon tea at the Courtyard Tea Room inside the Boston Public Library. Think finger sandwiches, scones and a Renaissance-style courtyard. Reserve ahead on Resy because it books up. Afterward, peek into the library's Bates Hall reading room.
  • Evening: Head to the North End, Boston's Little Italy. For dinner, line up at Giacomo's (tiny, cash only, and worth the wait) or book a seat at Neptune Oyster for the famous warm lobster roll. Then settle the great cannoli debate: Mike's Pastry or Modern Pastry? Buy one from each and vote.

Day 3: Art, Harbor & One Last Toast

A slower Sunday before you head home, with some culture and some sea breeze.

  • Morning: Visit the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, a Venetian-style palace built by a woman who did everything her way. Stand in the flower-filled courtyard and swoon. (Book a timed ticket, and note it's closed Tuesdays. If your name is Isabella, you get in free.)
  • Afternoon: Cab over to the Seaport for a late lunch of oysters and something bubbly at Row 34. Then stroll the Harborwalk to the ICA, or hop on a harbor cruise.
  • Evening: One last toast at the Rooftop at The Envoy, where the skyline and harbor views make the perfect send-off. Same time next year?

What to Pack — City Chic, Cobblestone-Ready

Boston is a walking city with brick sidewalks and hills, and the weather can't make up its mind. Pack for all of it and still look fabulous.

  • Stylish, comfy sneakers: Beacon Hill's cobblestones will not forgive heels.
  • A light trench or leather jacket: harbor breezes arrive right on schedule.
  • A hands-free crossbody bag: for walking, sipping and Newbury Street.
  • One rooftop-ready outfit: a silky top or wrap dress for Stratus and the Envoy.
  • A packable tote: because you will shop.
  • A portable charger: Acorn Street photos drain batteries fast.
  • Oversized sunglasses: great for harbor glare and for the morning after cannoli.

The GGC Bottom Line

Boston is a city that's easy to love and even easier to share with your best girls. You can do it without a car, in a weekend, and with plenty of cannoli. Walk until your feet complain, toast from 51 floors up, and argue happily over Mike's versus Modern. Then go home already planning the sequel. You've earned this one, girlfriend.
