It's romantic without requiring a single ounce of romance, which makes it basically engineered for a girls' weekend.
Here's the best part: WaterFire itself is free. Full lightings begin around sunset and run until roughly 11 p.m. or midnight. Why Sept 26 wins: a full lighting (not the smaller Basin or partial version), sunset around 6:35 p.m., vendors and entertainment from 5:30 p.m., pleasant early-fall temps, and enough darkness for the full magical effect. Getting There
Take the train if you possibly can. Providence Station is within walking distance of downtown hotels and Waterplace Park, which means you skip the post-event parking exodus — far less magical than the actual fire. Flying in? T.F.
